Botallack Mine, owned by the National Trust is an old tin mine, made famous by the Poldark TV series. The mine heads that we see today date back to the middle of the 1800's, however it is believed that mining activity existed on this site as far back as the Roman Empire. The mine shafts descend diagonally as far as half a mile under the sea. Today, the site is part of a UNESCO world heritage site, showing its cultural significance.
